KUMO IS A COLLABORATION WITH SHTL (Correntin Seguin De Broin)
He did a phenomenal job with his spider-like robot.
He did a phenomenal job with his spider-like robot.
I was lucky enough to be able to play with it and stage it using software such as C4D / WolrdCreator and Otoy Octane Render. This is a first short movie of an incoming series
The UNIT 920, or sometimes nicknamed "Kumo" (spider or cloud in Japanese), is an all-terrain exploration device. Initially mass-produced by the colossal military budgets of the ENF (Earth New Federation), it was eventually converted into an exploration laboratory when our planet Earth began to become too hostile to human life. It can be controlled by a human or operate as an autonomous matter. He embarks an energy conversion laboratory to recharge his batteries. He is able to scan his environment in order to study and transform the resources at his disposal. The SLH (Super-Long-Haul) drop these units in the galaxies to be studied, then it is able to communicate his discoveries over long distance to SLHs via his quantum radar. He is also equipped with a cannon gauss in order to « defend himself from fatal aggressions », a remnant of his military past. Since it is finally an invading mission purpose, some could argue that the main belligerent IS Kumo… and local species are just defending themeselves… Once again we teamed up with Pierre Magnol to undertake a small film. For my part, I was busy drawing in order to anticipate the mechanisms in a very general way, then 3d designer in Maxon cinema4d and Maxon zbrush for the "bokc-out", then retopology in c4d, UVW in c4d (Udimm), texturing in Adobe Substance Painter - and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for the decals. Back in c4d, import bitmaps in Advanced render/physical to check these bitmaps, then convert to Octane/Redshift. Rigging and animation of the critter always in c4d, in the wonderful scenes created specifically by Pierre with World Creator, and the vegetation of 3DQuakers Forester, populated with the Octane scater. The last letters of this teaser, つづく, « to be continued », suggest a sequel !
